2014 AASCU/CIC College Media Conference

Wednesday, June 25, 2014 to Friday, June 27, 2014
Washington, D.C.

"Connecting Across Media Boundaries: Gaining Access, Making News"

The College Media Conference, organized by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), helps communications and public relations professionals on campus prepare news materials that produce results and also to make contact with some of the nation’s top reporters, editors, freelance writers, producers, bookers, educational correspondents, and campus news professionals.

About the Conference

 The conference aims to help campus communications professionals develop techniques that work, prepare media materials that produce results, and make contacts with some of the nation’s top reporters, editors, producers, bloggers, and digital media leaders. It also features presentations and panel discussions with college and university public relations professionals who will share best practices and new ideas.

Participants will learn first-hand from representatives of major news organizations how to accomplish the following:

  • Approach key reporters who cover higher education for national and regional newspapers, network television, web publications and blogs, news services, and magazines;
  • Create and pitch story ideas to editors and freelancers;
  • Propose radio and television features;
  • Pitch article ideas via email, mail, telephone, and social media; and
  • Use new media to make the case for their institutions.

All speakers are confirmed, but the program may change without notice.

Who Should Attend

With a focus on both traditional and social media across numerous platforms, the conference is designed for communications officers and specialists, public and media relations directors and managers, writers, vice presidents, associate and assistant deans for external relations, and other interested administrators from all colleges, universities, and educational associations.
