My First Generation Story
About the Student

Zhanette Coffee
is a senior studying criminology at California State University,
Fresno. As a youth Zhanette became a ward of the state and overcame
tremendous obstacles by continuing her education and becoming the first
in her family to attend college. She is both a Renaissance and Heratio
Alger scholar. Ms. Coffee gives back to the local community as a cadet
in the Clovis Police Department and as a youth dance instructor. After
graduating in 2011, Zhanette plans to continue her education by
achieving her doctorate in forensic science. Her ultimate goal is to
become a highly regarded forensic investigator.
