Clifton Harcum is an author, mentor, entrepreneur and philanthropist. The Baltimore-area native was a 2013 Jefferson Award finalist, the “Nobel Prize for public service.” Harcum and a friend spearhead an annual Thanksgiving food drive that served 900 families in 2012; Harcum also started Men of Distinction (a UMES student group), as well as a campus chapter of Rotaract, a service club. In addition to co-founding an outreach organization that stages college fairs and mobilizes student volunteers to participate in town-gown projects, Harcum also set up a scholarship fund at UMES to help freshmen pay for their first year of college.
