• 2017 China Summer Practicum

    AASCU has partnered with Dalian Jiaotong University in Dalian, China to provide American students from AASCU member institutions with the 2017 Summer China Practicum. The two-week study and culture practicum will be held in May and June 2017. It will include Chinese language and cultural learning, field trips to historical sites, workshops on Chinese traditions, food, arts and crafts, as well as visits to companies and industries. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Dalian Jiaotong University, with a description of class hours, on-site cultural activity hours, and practicum hours. The entire practicum could yield up to 1 to 2 transfer credits depending on each individual institution’s credit transfer policy. 


    Program Dates:

    The program offers two sessions with the same content to accommodate students who study on semester and quarter schedules. Students are welcome to select either of the sessions. Please see the sample day-to-day agenda:

    • May 20 - June 2, 2017
    • June 24 - July 8, 2017

    Program Costs:

    Selected candidates will be responsible for the following expenses:

    • Program fee - $800 (tuition, field activities, local transportation)
    • Program registration - $200
    • Room and board -  $200 (accommodation and meals)  


    The fees do NOT include:

    • Food outside organized activities
    • Health insurance
    • International airfare
    • Personal expenses


    Application and Selection:

    The program is open to undergraduate students from AASCU member institutions. The candidate must:

    • Be a US citizen between the age of 18 to 30;
    • Have completed at least one year of college;
    • Be in good academic standing and have participated in community service or volunteer experience;
    • Be interested in China and Chinese Culture;
    • Have a good understanding of the social conditions of modern China; and
    • Be willing to promote the education exchange and cooperation between China and US

    Application Items:

    Please submit the application form with all the requested materials by email to Jody Dixon no later than April 1, 2017. Your final application MUST include:

    • Application Form
    • Bio-metric page of your passport
    • Doctor’s letter confirming that you are physically fit to travel overseas  
    • Nomination Form
    • One recommendation letter from an academic faculty member
    • One official academic transcript
    • Personal Statement (one page)
