delegation of AASCU staff, member institutions and AASCU President Mildred García participated in the China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo (CACIE), held Oct. 17-20 in Beijing.
For the past 18 years, AASCU’s attendees have participated in a series of activities at the conference designed to create and sustain educational partnerships in China, including meeting with educational leaders and students from around the world.
At this year’s meeting, García spoke on a panel for women in higher education about challenges women face in achieving leadership positions, her own experiences, and how AASCU’s programs such as the
Millennium Leadership Initiative prepare the next generation of leaders. She also participated in a student mobility panel and joined the general assembly panel, "Education 2035: A Dialogue with the Future of the World," to discuss the critical importance of study abroad and how it contributes to
creating global citizens and promoting mutual understanding.
AASCU member institutions that attended the event included York College/CUNY, Georgia Gwinnett College, Murray State University (Ky.), Southwest Oklahoma State University, St. Cloud State University (Minn.), and University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
"We are proud of the successes of our international partnerships that promote student mobility,” stated García in remarks during the conference. “Ensuring that our students are prepared in a rapidly changing global society is one of AASCU’s core tenets.”
