WASHINGTON, July 19, 2022 – The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) welcomed the 2022
Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) cohort of higher education professionals to their office in Washington, D.C. There, the up-and-coming leaders took part in a premier leadership development program aimed at preparing those in their early to mid-career stages who aspire to advance to administrative roles with greater responsibility and oversight.
With a curriculum designed to develop the skills and competencies necessary for the next generation of higher education leaders, the 2022 ELP cohort engaged with a rich and experienced bench of faculty to cover topics such as equity and social justice leadership, navigating and leading through change, finance and administration, leading as a provost, and more.
“This was an amazing, productive, inspiring, and thoughtful program that gave me concrete and actionable strategies to create and deliver projects. Naming strategies and needs was very useful too. There was great rapport that allowed us to build meaningful connections,” said one program participant.
The group met for an in-person retreat and will continue their program with monthly virtual workshops and small-group sessions for reflection and study of promising practices. Additionally, each member of the ELP cohort will demonstrate their leadership skills to their campus community by leading an on-campus project or initiative with the support of their president/chancellor or cabinet-level administrator.
“This was the most amazing experience I’ve had during my time in higher ed and really my professional career. Everything was so thoughtfully organized and curated to give us everything we didn’t know we needed. So much value in the relationships made and by being part of this AASCU family.”
