Washington, D.C. – Constantine W. (Deno) Curris announced today his
plans to retire as president of the American Association of State
Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Curris assumed the presidency of
AASCU in October 1999.
Carlos Hernández, president of New Jersey City University and chair
of the AASCU Board of Directors said, in accepting Curris’ resignation,
“Over the course of his presidency, Deno Curris’ leadership has been
extraordinary, not only on behalf of our member institutions and their
students but on behalf of the entire higher education community in this
country.
“His leadership, commitment and passion for our institutions and
their missions are unmatched and Deno has clearly been a national leader
in efforts to shape America’s educational policy agenda.”
Hernández went on to say that Curris leaves AASCU in a very strong position both programmatically and financially.
A specific retirement date has not been established, but Hernández
said the executive committee of the board has begun discussion on the
search and transition process.
“Our goal is to work with the AASCU Board and staff to ensure continuity and a smooth leadership transition,” said Hernández.
The AASCU Board will meet during the association’s Annual Meeting at the end of November.
