WASHINGTON, D.C.—American Association
of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) President Dr. Muriel Howard issued
the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin:
“AASCU is analyzing today’s U.S. Supreme
Court ruling in Fisher v. The University
of Texas at Austin. Public colleges and universities will continue to
pursue diversity in accordance with the established legal framework. AASCU
institutions serve more than one half of minority students attending public, four-year
institutions of higher education. Of our nearly 420 institutional and system
members, 62 have minority students comprising at least half of their student
population.
“State college and university leaders understand
that the college experience is enriched through interactions and exchanges of students,
faculty and staff from a wide array of social, cultural and economic
backgrounds. We value diversity and remain committed to our mission of
providing access to high-quality, affordable college opportunities.”
