China-U.S. Rising Star Program Web Series

About the Series
As part of AASCU’s
commitment to support its members in their efforts to prepare students for
work, life, and citizenship in an increasingly globalized world, AASCU is
pleased to offer a virtual China-U.S. Rising Star Program web series starting
September 21 for students at AASCU member campuses. Through six webinars,
focusing on the themes of architecture and cultural awareness, the series will
focus on Chinese culture, history, and language, and strengthen cross-cultural
communication skills of U.S. and Chinese student participants. We also welcome
the participation of faculty at our AASCU member institutions.
Note: The in-person China-U.S. Rising Star Student
Study Tour Program is traditionally hosted in China over the course of two
weeks. However, due to travel
restrictions and other challenges related to COVID-19, this year AASCU is we offering
the program as a six-part webinar series.
Program Sessions and Dates
Participants are invited to join any, or all, the sessions. They will be offered every other week and will last for up to two hours. Sessions will allow students to:
- Explore the current challenges between architecture design and wellness
- Identify the critical issues in the environment and ecosystem; the evolving perceptions on architecture; and the essential needs for future city planning
Program Sessions:
Registration for the Program Opening Ceremony & Orientation closes on September 14, 2022.
Additional Topic-Based Sessions:
Specific titles and
topics will be announced in advance of the session dates. Participants may pick
and choose sessions based on their availability and interest.
- Session 2 - September 28, 2022 (7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST)
- Session 3 - October 12, 2022 (7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST)
- Session 4 - October 26, 2022 (7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST)
- Session 5 - November 9, 2022 (7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST)

Audience
To be eligible to participate in the program, you
must be:
- A student currently enrolled in a program of study at an AASCU member institution
- Interested in studying abroad in China
- Interested in Chinese architecture, language, history, and culture
- A faculty member at an AASCU member institution interested in presenting on any of the relevant topics
- A faculty member at an AASCU member institution interested in incorporating a virtual international experience into your classes
