Over the years, some have asked, “what is Summer Council and why should I attend?” Summer Council is the time that campus leaders can focus on both their personal and professional development.  It’s a time where you can discuss major issues, learn from your colleagues, and of course, enjoy having time to connect with your peers.

About the Conference

AASCU’s Summer Council of Presidents programming is designed to provide strategies and tools to help presidents and chancellors successfully lead change, drive innovation and create a sustainable future.  Attendance is limited to current presidents and chancellors of member institutions, family members and guests.


Jeff O'Brien John O’Brien, President & CEO at EDUCAUSE will speak and present an interactive presentation on “Everything a President Needs to Know About Technology".

Dr. John O'Brien serves as the president and CEO of EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through technology innovation. EDUCAUSE serves over 2,300-member colleges, universities, and organizations from 45 countries who themselves collectively serve over 16 million students. In his role as CEO, he speaks and writes on a variety of topics related to higher education, technology, and the crucial intersection where the two meet. Read his full bio

Jeff Selingo Book

We will also hear from New York Times Best-Selling Author and award-winning columnist, 
Jeffrey  J. Selingo about his latest book, “There is Life After College: What Parents and Students Should Know About Navigating School to Prepare for the Jobs of Tomorrow.” 

Jeffrey J. Selingo has written about higher education for two decades. He is the author of three books, a contributing writer at the Washington Post and The Atlantic, and a professor of practice and special advisor at Arizona State University. He is also a visiting scholar at Georgia Tech’s Center for 21st Century Universities. Read his full bio

The special conference rate is $219 for a single/double room plus 13.15% state and local taxes (current tax rate may change).
To obtain this rate, you must book your room by Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Reserve accommodations early, well before June 5when rooms are released.  After June 5, if accommodations are available, they will be at a higher rate. Once AASCU’s conference rate rooms are filled, alternative overflow rooms will be listed on AASCU’s website.

Room type is not guaranteed since it is based upon availability at the time of your reservation.  

You can make reservations online if your stay is in the June 24 to July 2 window of the room block.
However, if you wish to book before or after AASCU’s room block, prefer to upgrade your room type at a higher rate, or if your online reservation fails (rooms may be sold out on one of your preferred nights), please call the hotel reservations office for assistance 1-888-238-4218.

A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to hold the reservation and shall be applied to the first night of the reserved stay. The deposit is refundable if notice is received at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to arrival and a cancellation number is obtained. Should you fail to show up or notify the hotel of cancellation, the hotel may retain the deposit.

Early Departure Fee: An early departure fee of one night’s stay and tax will apply if a attendee checks out prior to the confirmed checkout date and without providing notice upon check in. Guests wishing to avoid an early checkout fee should advise the hotel at or before check-in of any change in planned length of stay.

Indicate any disability-related requirements or special preferences when making your reservation. The  Hilton Minneapolis reservations department will work to accommodate your requests.  

Check-in at the hotel is at 3 p.m. and check-out is at noon.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is located about 25 minutes from the Hilton Minneapolis.

Cancellation & Refund Policytop

Cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a cancellation fee if received after 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday, June 10, 2019. Cancellations received prior to this will receive a full refund. Refunds will be issued within 45 days of the meeting's conclusion. Payments made online will be refunded back to the credit card; all other refunds will be issued via check.

Failure to reconcile Summer Council final invoices precludes members from registering for future meetings.

*No-show is a registrant who does not attend the meeting and has not canceled in writing. No-shows are responsible for all registered meeting charges.

Administrative Fee
An administrative fee of one-night’s stay ($219 plus tax) will be assessed to each reservation canceled after Friday, June 7th
