• Teaching English while Learning Chinese (TELC)

    AASCU is pleased to announce that the application process for Teaching English while Learning Chinese (TELC) positions for the 2016-2017 school year is now open. TELC is a paid, full-time ESL job opportunity designed for college graduates and language teachers interested in the Chinese language and its culture. Participants teach English as a second language in the Shanghai  K-12 school system and take part in weekly Mandarin Chinese lessons. The program also includes a series of free weekend cultural activities and tours throughout the year. TELC teaching consists mainly of oral English and comes with a one-year commitment (renewable).  

    TELC is offered by Shanghai Pacican Academy, which is the Shanghai branch of the China Center for International Education Exchange (CCIEE) under the Ministry of Education of China. Pacican works with the Shanghai Municipality and the District Education Commissions to place TELC teachers in almost 400 public and private schools in Shanghai.

    Minimum Requirements 

    • Bachelor's degree or higher degree in any major
    • Fluent speaker of English holding a passport of an English-speaking country
    • Two years of teaching experience or a TESOL/TEFL Certificate (minimum 120-hour course from any reliable school-based or on-line organizations). The two-year experience and TESOL certificate requirements can be waived if the candidate holds a master's degree or a Ph.D.
    • Chinese language skills are preferred, but not required.
