Donovan Howard is a retired insurance professional with more than 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has held positions including premium auditor, underwriter, accountant, account manager, and legal collections manager. He retired from American International Group in May 2014.
In July 2015, Howard came out of retirement and spent three years in academia as an assistant dean at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany, where he worked with faculty and staff to help establish the new College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity.
Howard earned his Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and sciences, majoring in finance, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is married to SUNY New Paltz President Darrell P. Wheeler.
