Laila Richman is a professor of special education and associate dean for the College of Education at Towson University (MD). Her research interests and scholarship focus on teacher education, assessment, equity and access, and instructional technology. Over the past five years, she has served as principal or co-principal investigator on over $7 million in state and federal grants focused on teacher preparation, recruitment, and retention.
She received her B.S. in elementary education (K–9) and began her career teaching eighth-grade special education before earning her Ph.D. in special education from the University of Kansas. She held faculty positions at Middle Georgia State University and Notre Dame of Maryland University before joining the faculty at Towson University. In her role as associate dean, she oversees assessment and accreditation, program development, and P–12 partnerships. Richman currently serves as treasurer for the Maryland Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Board of Directors.
