Jose Ricardo-Osorio

José Ricardo-Osorio is the dean of the University of Houston-Downtown’s College of Public Service. He holds a bachelor’s degree in modern languages from the Universidad del Atlántico (Barranquilla, Colombia) and earned a master’s degree in Spanish and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Arkansas. Ricardo-Osorio has over 20 years of experience as a teacher and over 10 years as an administrator.

Ricardo-Osorio served as the interim dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he has held positions as associate dean and as department chair. Ricardo-Osorio has taught foreign language teaching methods, Spanish, and Latin American culture. He has also served as supervisor of student teaching.

Ricardo-Osorio is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and the Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association (PSMLA). For his contributions to foreign language teaching and the preparation of language teachers, Ricardo-Osorio was awarded the Educator of the Year distinction by PSMLA, and the Universidad del Atlántico honored him as a distinguished alumnus.
