Recap of the 2023 Emerging Leaders Program

Thirty-five emerging higher education professionals gathered in Washington, D.C., June 20–22 for the 2023 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). The intensive three-day program developed equity-minded and values-based leadership skills under the instruction of an experienced and candid faculty, and built a community of colleagues at AASCU member institutions.

The ELP cohort will continue to meet through December for virtual workshops led by ELP faculty: industry experts, presidents/chancellors, and alumni of AASCU leadership development programs serving in cabinet-level positions. In addition, each ELP participant will apply their learnings to leading a campus project over the 2023-24 academic year.

On the impact of the program, one participant remarked, “Thank you all so much for this wonderful experience! It has been one of the most pivotal of my career. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to connect with other colleagues from peer institutions as well as learning from intentional, kind experts!”
