AASCU Hosts Delegation of Moldovan Higher Education Leaders Through U.S. Department of State Program

In late February, AASCU hosted eight higher education leaders from Moldova – ranging from rectors to a member of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova – at our Washington office. During their visit, the delegation met with AASCU staff in sessions that covered various topics, including institution typology, membership classification, and the importance of regional comprehensive universities in higher education.

This visit was made possible through the Mississippi Consortium for International Development under the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). IVLP, a flagship professional exchange program of the U.S. Department of State, facilitates short-term exchanges among current and emerging foreign leaders and their American counterparts. The program advances foreign policy goals and promotes mutual understanding between nations by fostering dialogue and relationship building. U.S. diplomats select participants based on their professional achievements and potential to contribute to their countries’ development.

AASCU has a long-standing commitment to supporting IVLP and has welcomed numerous cohorts of higher education leaders to our office in the past. We were delighted to host our Moldovan colleagues, especially as we witness a resurgence of programs and partnerships in the post-pandemic era.
