WASHINGTON, December 15, 2020 –“News of the incredible generosity of philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott is extraordinary.

By our count, at least a dozen AASCU member institutions are the beneficiaries of her incredible generosity. For many, her gift is the largest in the institution’s history.

We congratulate Ms. Scott for recognizing that AASCU institutions educate the “new majority”—the underserved, students of color, low-income, and/or working adults.

We applaud her for helping these institutions continue to lift students from the lowest socioeconomic status to the middle class and beyond. These institutions are preparing their students to become future leaders in a more global society. They will become the educated diverse citizens the country needs.

Ms. Scott is forming a legacy that will change the lives of students for generations to come, and for that she is to be commended.”
