Aashir Nasim is the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Prairie View A&M University (TX), where he leads academic strategy, faculty development, and initiatives promoting student success and innovation across the institution. He is responsible for setting and advancing academic policy, fostering student engagement and persistence, and strengthening academic programs in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic priorities.
Previously, Nasim served in senior leadership positions at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), including vice president and senior advisor to the president, senior vice provost for faculty affairs, and vice president for institutional equity, effectiveness, and success. At VCU, he championed faculty development, academic innovation, and founded the Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation, a transdisciplinary program supporting faculty research and collaboration across fields.
He is the inventor of Climatext, an SMS-based messaging tool for surveying campus climate and culture. He holds a Ph.D. in child developmental psychology and a master’s degree from Howard University (DC) and a B.A. in psychology and biology from Augusta University (GA).
