Brad Mortensen

Brad L. Mortensen became the 13th president of Weber State University (UT) in January 2019, after serving in several leadership positions at the university since 2004. During his presidency, Mortensen has celebrated numerous accomplishments with campus partners, including launching the Weber State Amplified strategic plan and signing Utah’s first Educational Partnership Agreement with Hill Air Force Base. He is particularly committed to maintaining Weber State’s top rankings in student affordability and return on investment for graduates.

Mortensen guides Weber State’s efforts to be a leader in transforming lives by meeting all students where they are, challenging and guiding them to meet their goals both academically and in life. This includes strategic initiatives to expand access as an open enrollment university, increase retention and completion rates, provide personalized and innovative learning experiences, become an emerging Hispanic-serving institution, and achieve a STARS Gold rating by 2026 and carbon neutrality by 2040.

A first-generation college graduate, Mortensen holds several degrees, including a doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy from the University of Utah.
