Cheryl Nixon serves as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Fort Lewis College (FLC) in Colorado, a position she started in July 2019. Prior to arriving at FLC, she served as associate provost at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she held previous roles as chair of the Department of English and English graduate program director. Her career has been dedicated to serving diverse students by developing programming that features experiential learning, cohort-based projects, and community collaborations. She has overseen student projects featuring partnerships with the Boston Public Library, Boston Harbor Islands National Park, and Boston Mayor’s Office. Her research focuses on the invention of the novel in the 18th century, and her books and articles compare the early novel’s representation of the family to manuscript legal cases. She earned her B.A. in English and political science from Tufts University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Harvard University.
