Chris Jochum currently serves as professor and chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Fort Hays State University (FHSU), where he leads one of the largest teacher preparation programs in the state of Kansas. With an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students, his department offers virtual and on-campus degree programs in elementary education, early childhood unified, special education, and secondary education. During his time at FHSU, Jochum has led efforts to support student success, such as implementing high-impact practices and creating new, online programs to enable more people to achieve their goal of becoming public school teachers. His research focuses on leadership development in higher education as well as the preparation and professional development of preservice and in-service foreign language teachers. Jochum’s recent book is titled The Department Chair: A Practical Guide to Effective Leadership.
