Daneen Bergland is a writer and a senior instructor in University Studies, the general education program at Portland State University. She teaches interdisciplinary courses for sophomores on the themes of popular culture and American identities, and an online, community-based learning course for juniors. She received an M.A. in poetry writing from Portland State University and a B.S. in women’s studies and creative writing from Mankato State University (now Minnesota State University, Mankato). Her expertise is in online learning and her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning, specifically media literacy, civic learning, and democratic engagement.
