David Halbfinger is the political editor of The New York Times. Until January 2021, he was The Times’s Jerusalem bureau chief, leading its coverage of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. Earlier, he spent four years as political and deputy editor of the Metro desk, presidential campaign editor and then deputy national editor.
