Emily Fourmy Cutrer was appointed president of Texas A&M University-Texarkana in January 2013. Prior to this appointment, Cutrer served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University San Marcos for more than six years, and dean and professor at Arizona State University.

Cutrer is a native Texan, born in San Antonio and raised there and in Houston. She attended Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, and later The University of Texas at Austin where she earned her B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in American studies and began her academic career as a faculty member in American Studies and Art History. Her book The Art of the Woman: The Life and Work of Elisabet Ney (Lincoln: The University of Nebraska Press, Women in the West series, 1988) was awarded the Texas Institute of Letters Award for Best Book by a Texas Author in 1988. It was republished by the Texas A&M Press in its Ellen C. Temple Classic in Texas Women’s History Collection in 2016.
