George L. Wimberly

George L. Wimberly is the Director of Professional Development at the American Educational Research Association (AERA). In this position he develops and implements programs to enrich research skills, expand knowledge, and build research capacity among graduate students and early career scholars. Through his work in science education policy, he collaborates with associations and research societies to expand the scientific community and the research topics it examines. He is the Co-principal investigator on the National Science Foundation funded project, Advancing Core STEM Research Through Scientific Studies and Capacity Building with Large-Scale Data Resources. Dr. Wimberly earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago where his research focused on African American students’ educational attainment. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
