Ken Tucker became the twelfth president of the University of West Alabama (UWA) on Jan. 1, 2015. Previously, he served as dean of the university’s College of Business and Technology, chair of the UWA Foundation Board of Directors, professor of management, and president of the University of West Alabama Faculty Senate. Previously, he held positions at Whitfield Regional Hospital, Alabama Technology Network, and Weyerhaeuser. Active in community and civic affairs, Tucker serves with numerous committees, councils, leadership organizations, clubs, boards, foundations, and more. Among Tucker’s honors are the University of West Alabama’s William E. Gilbert Award for Outstanding Teaching and the statewide award for teaching excellence and professional contributions from the Alabama Association for Higher Education in Business. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with The Rotary Foundation and was named a “Citizen of the Year” by the Demopolis Chamber of Commerce. He’s also served as chair of the Marengo County Commission and received the Excellence in County Government Award from the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama twice. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
