Maddy Gitomer is senior counsel at Democracy Forward, where she has represented nonprofits and individuals in both litigation and regulatory advocacy. Gitomer’s career has focused on issues related to education, health, civil rights, privacy, and administrative law. She has brought suits focused on fighting for teachers, students, and academic freedom, and she has challenged federal attempts to weaken discrimination laws, privacy protections, and research funding.
Previously, Gitomer was a member of the privacy and cybersecurity practice at Hogan Lovells, where she focused on health privacy law. Gitomer also maintained a robust pro bono practice focused on protecting reproductive rights, defending against LGBTQ+ discrimination, and expanding access to health care. Earlier in her career, Gitomer served as one of Senator Dodd’s professional staff members on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s Subcommittee on Children and Families.
Gitomer holds a J.D. and a master’s degree in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from American University (DC). Gitomer was also named one of the Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association.
