Mehruz Kamal

Mehruz Kamal is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Computing Sciences at SUNY Brockport. In her role as department chair, she has successfully led the development and introduction of new academic programs and achieved external re-accreditation of programs housed in the department among other accomplishments. She has taught a variety of Information Systems courses and finds fulfillment in seeing her students mature in their intellectual capabilities. Her expertise lies in bringing relevance to coursework through real-world projects and has spearheaded service learning initiatives in her department. Her main research stream is in the field of Information Technology for Development, which investigates how technology can bring about social and economic development of a community. In addition, she is very passionate about finding opportunities to encourage girls to pursue STEM fields. Prior to her academic career, Mehruz was a software engineer at Motorola. She earned her PhD in Information Technology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology.
