An energetic leader and 30-year advocate for students in California higher education, Monir Ahmed serves as Sonoma State University’s (CA) vice president for administration and finance/chief financial officer. In this role, he oversees budget, finance, information technology, facilities, risk services, entrepreneurial activities, the police department, and other administrative and financial operations for the campus. Previously, he served as the associate vice president of finance and administrative services at California State University (CSU), San Bernardino, where he oversaw similar areas and contributed to many initiatives benefiting the entire CSU system. Ahmed has also held similar roles at the University of California, Los Angeles and University of California, Merced (UC Merced), where he was a founding team member of the UC Merced campus that opened in 2005. Ahmed is a collaborative leader who works closely with other campus leaders to improve services for students. He frequently engages with local agencies and other universities to enhance student success across the state and make a meaningful impact on his operational oversight at Sonoma State.
