Scott R. Furlong

Scott R. Furlong is the provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY Oswego). Furlong joined the SUNY Oswego family in July 2017 and is responsible for leadership of all instructional and academic programs, overseeing more than 100 academic programs in the college’s four schools with more than 550 faculty, as well as a range of academic support staff and offerings.
He previously served as the dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) with academic and administrative responsibility over a range of arts and sciences programs. Prior to becoming dean, he served as chair of the Department of Public and Environmental Affairs and as co-director of UWGB’s first-year experience program (FOCUS).
Furlong is a renowned public policy and rulemaking scholar and co-author of two books: Public Policy: Politics, Analysis, and Alternatives and Rulemaking: How Government Agencies Write Law and Make Policy. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in government from St. Lawrence University (NY) and his Master of Public Administration and Ph.D. in political science from American University (DC).
