Steven B. Robbins is principal research scientist at ETS. Prior to joining ETS, Robbins was vice president for research at ACT and former professor and chair of the psychology department at Virginia Commonwealth University. He received his B.A. in psychology from the University of Illinois, his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Utah, and in 1992 was elected fellow of the American Psychological Association. Robbins is a leading social scientist in his field, publishing more than 150 refereed articles and technical reports, and a leading student success expert, co-authoring Increasing Persistence: Research-Based Strategies for College Student Success (Wiley, 2012). His research employs a psychological perspective on human and social capital in understanding education and career success. He promotes evidence-based assessment and intervention practices that help underserved learners bridge education and work.
