Julie Virjee is the co-founder (with her husband Fram Virjee) and director of Yambi Rwanda (Embrace Rwanda), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation. Yambi Rwanda is dedicated to transcending genocide and overcoming poverty in Rwanda through the creation of opportunity and through partnership with Rwandan citizens. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a B.A. in communications and speech/hearing, Virjee places a high value on education at all levels. Prior to directing Yambi Rwanda, Virjee worked as an author, promoter, and curriculum coordinator in the textbook publishing industry. She is also the owner and founder of Thimbleworks, a small business that specializes in both hand needlework and sweet hot mustard. Virjee also serves as a volunteer for a number of education foundations and organizations, working as an advocate for children of all ages. Since her husband’s appointment as president of California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in 2018, Virjee has deeply immersed herself in all facets of the university community. Today, Virjee serves as a campus leader, representing CSUF at community, social, and philanthropic events.
