Deborah J. Curtis began her tenure as the 12th president of Indiana State University on January 3, 2018. She is the first female and the second graduate of Indiana State to serve as president.
Her prior positions include provost at the University of Central Missouri, dean of the College of Education at Illinois State University, director of the Cecilia J. Lauby Teacher Education Center, as well serving as a faculty member for 26 years and achieving the rank of professor.
Curtis earned a Ph.D. from Indiana State University in curriculum and instruction. She holds a Master of Science from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Music from MacMurray College (IL).
Currently, Curtis serves on the boards of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Central Indiana Corporate Partnerships, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education Partnership Pentagon Collaborative, the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, and the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation.
