Cayle Moreo
Sustainability Director
Indiana State University
Cayle Moreo is the sustainability director of Indiana State University (ISU). He has been with ISU for 13 years; the first 10 were with the biology department as a lab coordinator and greenhouse manager. Moreo has an undergraduate degree in biology and a master’s in soil and plant ecology and managed a garden center for five years prior to graduation. During that time, he began his journey of promoting soil health and native plant species and advocated for the discontinued use of chemical fertilizers, biocides, and the removal of invasive plant species. After graduation, Moreo was an environmental consultant for five years. During this time, he performed habitat assessments, endangered species surveys, and wetland delineations. He has been gardening since he was a young child and now oversees two agriculture programs at ISU, the Community Garden and the Food Forest Program. Both projects have different aims, but both use regenerative agriculture methods to build soil.
