Matthew Cooney

Dr. Matthew Cooney (he/him/his) serves as Assistant Professor of Education and Director of the Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctoral (INLD) Program in the College of Education at Governors State University. Dr. Cooney’s scholarship focuses on the career pathways and experiences of college and university presidents and faculty development initiatives in higher education. As Director of the INLD program, he collaborates with scholars and leaders in the education and not-for-profit industries to guide doctoral students in creating positive social change in the communities they serve. Dr. Cooney transitioned into a faculty role after working in administrative positions in student affairs, undergraduate education, and institutional effectiveness.
