Steven D. Koether has a research focus on critical thinking, STEM education, and deliberative dialogues. He is the Foundations of Science (FoS) program coordinator, principal investigator, and lead instructor at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in Texas. The FoS is a course designed to improve student critical thinking and science literacy skills. A national version of the course, Science for Citizens, was developed for the National Blended Course Consortium with Teagle and AASCU funding/support. He is also the principal investigator on a five-year, National Science Foundation funded project to improve STEM undergraduate education at SHSU. Koether coordinates and advises students in the composite science degree at SHSU for future secondary science educators. He is on the AASCU American Democracy Project (ADP) Steering Committee, leads the SHSU ADP, and is active with various first-year experience and future faculty committees on his home campus. Koether also regularly co-leads deliberative dialogue training with AASCU ADP.
