• Presidential Missions

AASCU organizes Presidential Missions to countries outside of the United States. These trips allow our member presidents and chancellors to explore potential linkages with institutions of higher education around the world. The expectation is that these presidential missions will lead to partnerships and programs at the institutional level, supported and sustained by AASCU and its network of relationships in the host country. Specifically, AASCU’s presidential missions are designed to create opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, as well as program collaborations with the host country.

AASCU’s first presidential mission took place in September 2003 with a delegation to Cuba. Since then, AASCU has sponsored presidential delegations to Morocco (2005), South Africa (2006), Chile (2008), Brazil (2012), Cuba (2015), Jordan and Oman.

AASCU's 2019 Presidential Mission was held in Argentina from March 7-17, 2019 in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Mendoza.

    • In-country program included meetings with Ministry of Education, US Embassy and higher education officials; university visits; cultural activities; and opportunities for dialogue and development of academic partnerships.
    • Delegation was limited to 15-20 Presidents/Chancellors and spouses/partners.
    • The estimated per person cost was approximately $6000.00
