New Op-Ed Explores How Strategic Course Scheduling Improves Student Success

In a new University Business op-ed, AASCU’s Terry Brown, vice president for academic innovation and transformation, and Ad Astra Founder and CEO Tom Shaver argue that course scheduling is one of the most powerful tools institutions have to improve student outcomes, reduce costs, and support timely degree completion. However, it’s also often overlooked.

When required courses aren’t offered at the right time or in the right format, students can experience unnecessary delays, take on additional debt, or struggle to complete their degrees. Brown and Shaver explain how aligning scheduling decisions with institutional goals and student needs can remove these barriers while strengthening retention and graduation rates.
