    New Presidents Academy

The Leadership Program for New State College and University Presidents and Chancellors

NPA is tailored to the distinctive needs of presidents and chancellors who lead state colleges and universities. Don't miss this unique opportunity to connect with your state university peers in a learning environment tailored to the specific challenges that a first-time president is likely to face.

Who Should Participate: The 2022 academy is open to first-time AASCU member and non-member presidents and chancellors appointed after July 2021 (exceptions may be made for presidents who began prior to July 2021 if space permits.)

    • Diversity, equity, and inclusion discussions will be integrated throughout the program
    • Dialogues about AASCU institutions’ commitment to access and student success outcomes will be included throughout
    • We are committed to creating a supportive, engaging, and customized learning environment built on trust, confidentiality, and safety among the cohort
    • Program content is reevaluated each year to ensure we are meeting the needs of current presidents and chancellors

    • Support new presidents with a practical orientation to the presidency. A wide range of topics will be covered related to the current context of higher education including, but not limited to, crisis management, equity-minded leadership, fundraising, strategic planning, and financial management
    • Create a community of support for new presidents to include peers and experienced (current and retired) presidents. The NPA network is an invaluable resource for presidents throughout their careers

2021 NPA Testimonials - What Presidents Are Saying ...

Berenecea Eanes "I am overwhelmed and full from my NPA experience! The ability to share and be with my NPA classmates is priceless and so meaningful. Our in-person experience was well-planned and safe. Every session helped me reflect and think about my presidency from a different perspective."
    — Berenecea Johnson Eanes, City University of New York, York College
Alberto Cardelle"The New Presidents Academy is a space and an experience that cannot be replicated at any other organization. You have individuals at a unique time of their lives, from unique institutions, all with a similar goal assembled by a unique organization. Cannot imagine not having been part of the NPA."
—Alberto Cardelle, State University of New York College at Oneonta
John Moseley"This was a tremendous, value-adding program! The content was applicable to what we were enduring as new presidents, but even more impressive were the relationships that formed through participating in NPA. I would highly recommend NPA to anyone that transitions to this seat."
    — John Moseley, Lincoln University of Missouri
