Benjamin Wiles

Benjamin Wiles has 20 years of university teaching experience—mostly mathematics, but also statistics, education, and institutional data. He has published research in automotive engineering, special education, number theory, and educational psychology. His current interests relate to the role of autonomy-supportive structure in the motivation and achievement of college students.

His professional roles include assistant department head (mathematics), inaugural director for institutional effectiveness (information technology), inaugural chief data officer (academic affairs), and currently as chief student success & empowerment officer (academic affairs). Additionally, he has served as a faculty fellow for student affairs and for the center for instructional excellence.

He has direct experience in modernizing student success analytics and assessment, architecting large-scale, technology-enabled curricular reform, and deploying technology platforms for student success and advising.

An active collaborator and consultant, he has recently co-chaired the Chief Data Officers Working Group at EDUCAUSE, served as an advisory board member for Gartner Data & Analytics Summits, reviewed for the U.S. Department of Education Postsecondary Success Recognition program, and routinely referees for educational research journals and conferences.
