Michael Dean Matson is the Life Safety Code Program Manager for the Health and Human Services – Texas, Long-Term Care, Regulatory Services Division. He ensures that long-term care providers construct and maintain facilities in compliance with federal and state regulations within the south and central Texas region. Originally from Nevada, Mike lived primarily in Alaska, where he met his wife, Cynthia.
After spending more than 25 years working in the Alaska oil and gas fields, Mike retired in 2016 with an exceptional career as an experienced safety professional. Alongside Senior leadership, Mike led the responsibilities for all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities within exploration and production operations and served as an on-site Safety professional and a technical resource. Mike has also served as a Steering Committee Member for the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program to support and maintain the local site STAR status.
Mike’s career includes considerable experience and knowledge in small business and entrepreneurship ventures, owning and managing several small businesses, multiplex apartment facilities, condominiums, and single-family residences in Alaska, California, and Texas. Mike’s leadership contributed to the growth of the floral business he owned and managed for eight years and was among the top 2.5-6% of sales in the country at the time. In addition to his long career as a safety professional and business owner, Mike still dedicates himself to helping those in need of long-term care. Mike holds great respect and gratitude for those who provide long-term care for those in need. Mike’s greatest accomplishment is his beloved family, his wife of 29 years, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, and their two sons, Phillip and Wyatt Matson.
