What does a happy future look like at America’s state colleges and universities?
Regional public universities continue to experience significant challenges—a volatile and uncertain sociopolitical context, a decline in state funding, demographic shifts, changing attitudes toward higher education, disruptive technologies, and external attacks on institutional autonomy and our most cherished values.
In times of threats and uncertainty, campus leaders are called to inspire deep and sustained change with the hope of a happier future.
The meeting will pose important questions about the future of the regional public university:
- How are regional public universities preserving their core mission and values while embracing the opportunity to imagine the possible—rethinking and reimagining how they fulfil their mission?
- How are they responding to external pressures to change the way they operate while continuing to serve their students, their regions, and states?
- How have they reimagined credentials to align with the needs of students and employers? How have they deployed technologies like artificial intelligence?
- How have they adjusted to declining revenues while prioritizing student success? How have they adopted long-term strategic plans to sudden, disruptive change?
- How are they responding to, and adopting to, the effects of climate change?
- How are they ensuring that all students thrive at a time when certain programs and services are being challenged if not dismantled?
- How are they building strong partnerships with business to create new models of experiential learning and credentials?
